Rainer Wagner (journalist)

Rainer Wagner (* 1948 in Bamberg ) is a German journalist (culture, restaurant critic) for the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ), whose culture department he was in charge of.

biography

Wagner grew up in Bamberg and graduated from high school there. He completed an internship at the German School of Journalism in Munich and, after working as a feature editor in Stuttgart, studied German, music and theater studies in Erlangen. He has a PhD. Initially he worked as a freelancer for radio, daily newspapers and specialist magazines (Fonoforum, Klassik heute, Die Deutsche Bühne, Opernwelt). He was a music and culture critic at HAZ for 35 years since 1978, initially as a music critic for eleven years, then as head of the culture department and finally as a culture reporter. In 2013 he retired, but continues to work as a freelance writer.

In addition to being a music critic (classical music, opera, but also pop, especially songwriter, songwriter), he has also made a name for himself as a restaurant critic and is an amateur chef himself. He has long been on various juries for the German Record Critics' Prize (for example orchestral music).
