Raivo Vare

Raivo Vare (born May 11, 1958 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian politician and businessman.

Life

Raivo Vare was born as the son of the Soviet military historian Vello Vare (* 1923). He graduated in 1980 with a degree in Law at the State University of Tartu from. From 1985 to 1990 Vare was Deputy Head of Department in the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR .

When Estonian independence was regained, Vare was in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar from 1990 to 1992 as Minister of State ( Estonian riigiminister ) responsible for security issues. From 1993 to 1996 he was director of a Tallinn bank before returning to politics. From November 1995 to November 1996 Vare held the office of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure in the cabinet of Prime Minister Tiit Vähi and from March 1997 to March 1999 the same office in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mart Siimann . Vare did not belong to any party.

After leaving the government, Vare returned to the private sector as a transport and logistics expert.
