Mart Siimann (born September 21, 1946 in Kilingi-Nõmme ) is an Estonian politician. He was Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia from March 17, 1997 to March 25, 1999.

Life

Mart Siimann graduated from high school in Tartu in 1965 and studied at the University of Tartu from 1965 to 1971 . From 1971 to 1975 he was employed as a psychologist and deputy director at a labor research institute. From 1975 to 1982 he was a research assistant at the University of Tartu, before working as editor and deputy program director at Estonian Television ( Eesti Televisioon ) from 1982 to 1987 . From 1987 to 1989 he took over the post of director of the Estonian Radio ( Eesti Raadio ).

After Estonian independence was regained, Mart Siimann was director of Estonian television from 1989 to 1992 and from 1992 to 1995 managing director of a marketing agency specializing in television advertising. From 1997 to 1999 he was chairman of the Estonian Coalition Party ( Koonderakond ), which existed until 2000. From 1995 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2003 he was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).

He has been chairman of the Estonian Olympic Committee ( Eesti Olümpiakomitee - EOK ) since 2001 .
