Kilingi-Nõmme is a city in southwest Estonia . It is located 40 km southeast of the city of Pärnu and belongs to the Pärnu County . The population is 2,447 (as of January 1, 2000) . Since 2005 the city belongs to the municipality of Saarde .
history
The first mention of the settlement dates from 1560. The place was later named after the landlord Valentin Schilling (in Saarde dialect Kilingi) and the inn Nõmme.
At the end of the 19th century , Kilingi-Nõmme had 500 residents. In 1928 the population was 1420. In 1938 Kilingi-Nõmme was granted town charter.
Kilingi-Nõmme has been a member of the international project European Cultural Villages since 1998 .
Economy and Infrastructure
There is almost no industry in town. However, Kilingi-Nõmme is surrounded by 35562 hectares of forest. Many companies are active in wood processing here - AS Talme, AS Sylvester, OÜ Metsakuivendus, AS Puitex.
