Saarde is a rural Estonian municipality in Pärnu County with an area of 1065 km². It is about 40 km from Pärnu .
In 2017, the previous rural community of Saarde merged with the neighboring rural community of Surju to the northwest .
The main town is the city ( estn. Linn ) Kilingi-Nõmme . In addition to the large village ( alevik ) Tihemetsa, the municipality includes the villages ( kula ) Allikukivi, Ilvese, Jaamaküla, Jäärja, Kalda, Kalita, Kamali, Kanaküla, Kärsu, Kikepera, Kõveri, Lähkma, Laiksaare, Lanksaare, Leipste, Lodja, Marana, Marina , Metsaääre, Mustla, Oissaare, Pihke, Rabaküla, Reinu, Ristiküla, Saarde, Saunametsa, Sigaste, Surju, Tali, Tõlla, Tuuliku, Väljaküla, Veelikse, Viisireiu.
In Saarde are the nature reserves of Nigula, Sookuninga and Rongu. The largely undisturbed nature offers numerous opportunities for hiking and animal observation.
2005 to 2017
The older municipality of Saarde was created in 2005 from the merger of the rural municipality of Saarde with the town of Kilingi-Nõmme and the rural municipality of Tali to form a new rural municipality of Saarde. 4,350 inhabitants lived on an area of 707 km² (as of 2010). In addition to the main town of Kilingi-Nõmme, the municipality included the villages Allikukivi, Jäärja, Kalita, Kamali, Kanaküla, Kärsu, Laiksaare, Lanksaare, Leipste, Lodja, Marana, Marina, Mustla, Oissaare, Pihke, Reinu, Saarde, Sigaste, Tali, Tlla , Tuuliku, Väljaküla, Veelikse, Viisireiu.
