The municipality Raasiku (German: Rasik ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian district of Harju with an area of 1558 km². It has 4,358 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2010).
history
When the Danish conquerors came from sea in 1219, one of the first decisive battles with the locals probably took place in the area around Peningi. Raasiku himself was first mentioned in 1241 in the Liber Census Daniae . The Kiviloo manor dates back to 1322 but was completely destroyed in the Livonian War .
For station Raasiku in 1942 during the German occupation some 1,200 people from Frankfurt and from the Terezin concentration camp transported and murdered in the nearby dunes.
Cities & Villages
In addition to the main town of Aruküla (1866 inhabitants), the municipality includes the villages of Härma, Igavere, Järsi, Kalesi, Kiviloo, Kulli, Kurgla, Mallavere, Peningi, Perila , Pikavere, Raasiku , Rätla and Tõhelgi.
