Mustvee

Mustvee ( German Tschorna ; Russian Чёрный ) is a city in northeast Estonia .

location

Mustvee is located in the northeast of Jõgeva County on the northwest shore of Lake Peipus .

history

The name Mustvee (translated black water ) has been documented as a Mustut since 1493. Before the permanent settlement of the place existed at the present place some fishermen's huts. The Moustet manor has been mentioned since 1554 . Only with the immigration of Old Believers from Russia in the 18th century did the present location come into being. In 1869 Mustvee became an independent municipality. Since 1921 it had the title of a large parish ( alevik ). In 1938 it received city rights.

During the Second World War , the city was destroyed to over 70 percent. After that, houses in the style of the Soviet construction were built in many places, which today characterize the cityscape in many places. Outside the center, especially on Lake Peipus, the area is idyllic, especially in summer. Max Kaur has been Lord Mayor of Mustvee since April 2013.
