Tori (German: Torgel ) is a rural community in the Estonian district of Pärnu . It was created in this form in 2017 through the merger of the previous rural community of Tori with the rural communities of Are and Sauga and the city of Sindi .
geography
The city of Pärnu is located southwest of Tori. The Pärnu River flows through the municipality . The name of the parish of Tori was first mentioned in 1544.
Before 2017
The former municipality of Tori had an area of 282.1 km² and 2246 inhabitants (as of 2017). In addition to the main town of Tori, this community already included the villages of Aesoo, Elbi, Jõesuu, Kildemaa, Kõrsa, Kuiaru, Levi, Mannare, Muraka, Muti, Oore, Piistaoja, Randivälja, Riisa, Rätsepa, Selja, Taali, Toheraõlli, and Urumarja. 43% of the community area was covered with forests and 19% with moors. 38% were used for agriculture.
Culture and sights
The famous Tori horses , which were named after the breeding started in Tori in 1856 , are known worldwide .
