Eduard Koerber
Eduard Philipp Körber ( Russian Эдуард Филипп Кёрбер * June 6 . Jul / 17th June 1770 greg. In Torgel , † January 31 jul. / 12. February 1850 greg. In Tartu ) was a Baltic cleric and local historian .
Life
origin
Eduard came from an originally Vogtland then Baltic pastor family. His parents were the pastor Paul Körber (1735–1795) and Wilhelmine, née Vick (1752–1800).
Career
Körber attended the cathedral school in Reval , then the city school in Pernau . He studied in Königsberg from 1789 to 1792 and in Jena from 1792 to 1793 . After his studies he was tutor in Ass ( Estonia ) and Aya ( Livonia ) from 1794 to 1796 and pastor in Wendau ( Livonia ) from 1796 to 1846 . From 1846 he was consistorial councilor.
Körber was an antiquarian, collector and draftsman. While traveling to Livonia and Estonia against this background of interests, he conducted research in government and parish archives, drew castles, ruins, landscapes and much more, and collected antiquities, as well as minerals, fossils and conchylia . He corresponded with numerous historically interested people. In 1834 he was a co-founder of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia , but left the society in 1840. He has been an honorary member of the Estonian Scholarly Society since 1846 , as well as of the Grand Ducal Weimar Mineralogical Society in Jena since 1803, of the Moscow Natural Research Society since 1806 and of the Arensburg Estonian Society since 1817.

From his marriage to Elisabeth Mickwitz (1780–1833) in 1799 he had 12 children. Including:

- Ludwig August Körber (1808-1892), pastor
- Martin Körber (1817–1893), pastor, composer and poet
- Benjamin Körber (1819–1862), teacher
Works
Körber has published numerous articles in Germany and also left handwritten treatises and collections on Livonian coins, castles, monasteries, seals, documents, country towns, fossils, noble families, coats of arms, preachers and much more. Including:
- Materials on the Old and New History of the City of Riga , 1801
- Patriotic Oddities (Manuscript), Vol. 1, Dorpat 1802
- Topography and history of the most distinguished old locksmiths and monasteries in the Baltic provinces
- Numismatic by Lief and Ehstland, together with an appendix of Russian Courant coins, which have been minted since the government of Kayser Peter I until our times , 1806
- Description and illustration of old patriotic antiquities of art
- Materials on the topography and history of the rural towns in the Baltic provinces
- Directory of the Riga city of preachers from the Reformation to 1813
- Bishop Chronick of the Duchy of Ehstland , 1837
- Bishop's Chronicle of Oesel and the Wiek , 1838
- Bishop Chronick of Zemgale and Curland , 1838
- News from Schlosse Treiden, which churches on Loddiger and Treiden and their preachers , 1840
His estate later became the property of the Estonian Scholarly Society.
