Ralf Philipp

Ralf Philipp (born December 29, 1966 in Bad Nauheim ; † June 30, 1985 near Bad Nauheim) was a German ice hockey player .

Ralf Philipp (also, probably wrongly, Ralph), nephew of long-time Bundesliga and national player Rainer Philipp , learned to play ice hockey at EC Bad Nauheim . He went through all youth teams there. In 1984 he moved from the Oberliga , then the second highest German division, to the Bundesliga with the Kölner Haien . There he played with his uncle for a year and reached the semi-finals of the play-offs with the club . In this season, the enormous potential of the young striker, who was already considered the future star of the league in specialist circles, was already evident. But it shouldn't come to that: While preparing for the 1985/86 season , he was involved in a car accident near his home town on June 30th and died of its consequences on the same day. Since then, the number “8” on their backs, which both Ralf Philipp and his uncle previously wore at the KEC, has not been given to players by the Kölner Haien.
