The oldest synagogue still in use in Jerusalem is the Ramban Synagogue , the origin of which can be traced back to Ramban ( Nachmanides ). When he came to Jerusalem in 1267, he found only two Jews there and began to build up a Jewish community.

Initially, he built a synagogue in a destroyed building on Zion , but later it was moved to the place where the synagogue still stands today (corner of Rehov Ha Yehudim and Square of the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem's Old City ).

The synagogue was rebuilt in 1523, closed by the Ottoman governor in 1586 , destroyed by the Jordanians after 1948 and rebuilt after the Six Day War .
