Ramdien Sardjoe (born October 10, 1935 in Suriname ) is a Surinamese politician of Hindustan descent.

Life

Sardjoe is a trained educator . He joined the United Hindustan Party (VHP) early on, now the Vooruitstrevende Hervormings Partij (Progressive Reform Party) of Jagernath Lachmon .

In 1953 he founded the social-cultural association Hindostani Nawyuwak Sabha (HNS), where he held the office of both secretary and chairman.

In 1964 Sardjoe became a member of the De Staten van Suriname parliament for the VHP , and since 1987 De Nationale Assemblée (DNA) . His political career also led him to a management position at the Ministry of Education.

From November 2001 to mid-2005 he was chairman of the DNA.

After Jagernath Lachmon's death in October 2001, he also became chairman of the Vooruitstrevende Hervormings Partij (VHP).

On August 12, 2005, Sardjoe was sworn in as Vice-President of the Republic of Suriname together with the old and new President, Ronald Venetiaan , in the central church of Paramaribo . His term of office ended after the parliamentary elections in May 2010.

Sardjoe was re-elected as chairman of the VHP in the July 16, 2006 elections. However, it was the first time in party history that Bholanath Narain was a candidate for the post. Of the 1,009 valid votes, 617 votes (61%) went to Sardjoe and 372 votes (37%) to Narain. In July 2011, the former Justice and Police Minister of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, replaced him as chairman of the VHP. This ended his political career.
