Randulin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Randulins (female form Randulinas ; Eng. Swallows ) are the name of the Rhaeto-Romanic emigrants who, particularly from the Engadin, often spent a large part of their lives outside their hometowns. The most important destination of the emigration was Italy , bordering the Engadine , where at times a high percentage of the entire resident population of the Engadine villages lived. The most famous profession of Randulins was the confectioner or confectioner . Many others were also active as spirits and milk sellers, cobblers or knife grinders.

The significant percentage of emigration and return migration resulted in diverse interactions in culture, literature, architecture and cuisine between the emigrants' home villages and their respective destinations.
