Randy Taguchi
Randy Taguchi ( Japanese 田 口 ラ ン デ ィ , Taguchi Randi ; born October 3, 1959 in Tokyo , Tokyo Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese writer . In Japan she is best known for her weekly essays and is often referred to as the "Queen of the Internet". Her most famous works include u. a. Fujisan , Riku to shiro no ōkoku (Eng. Riku and the Kingdom of White ) and her debut novel Consent (Eng. Outlet ).
Live and act
Randy Taguchi grew up in Ibaraki , Osaka Prefecture, under difficult family conditions. Her father was an alcoholic and abused her mother and brother eight years her senior. The dysfunctional family affairs made her brother gradually depressed, up to and including suicide. Taguchi herself moved to Tokyo after finishing secondary school and worked there from 1985 to 1994 as a co-founder and editor of an advertising company. In 1996 she began to work as a freelance internet columnist, publishing various e-literature, which generated up to 78,000 views per week. In 2000 she published her first, semi-autobiographical novel, Consent (Japaneseコ ン セ ン ト). The bestseller novel was nominated for the prestigious Naoki Prize and has sold more than 800,000 times. Her influences include Ray Bradbury , Haruki Murakami , Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Hermann Hesse .
Works
Taguchi wrote a total of 14 novels, diaries, travelogues and numerous short stories such as Atomic-Bombed Maria (2006) and Snake, Moon, and Frog (2011) and to date 21 essays such as Yakushima: An Island of Raindrops and Dawn (1997 ), If Possible, I'd Like to Live without Getting Angry (2000, winner of the Chūōkōron Literary Award) and Hope in a Hopeless Age (2006). Some of her books have been translated from Japanese into four other languages: English, Italian, Chinese and Romanian.
