The Rangdum plateau is located in the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh at the confluence of the Rangdum Tsangpo , Peller Brokhpa and the waters of Pensi La , a pass that leads into Zanskar .

The wide alluvial plain at an altitude of 3600  m is dominated by the Rangdum Gompa monastery , which sits enthroned on a solitary rock in the middle of the plain. On the western edge of the plain, at the beginning of the Suru Valley , lies the village of Yüldo (also Yulidok or Zulidak ), six kilometers further the Shama Kurpo mill .

The wide grassy area is used as pasture for yaks, sheep, goats and horses. Barley is grown on individual small fields, but it often does not ripen in the short summers at high altitude.
