Raphael Maklouf

Raphael Maklouf (born December 10, 1937 in Jerusalem ) is a British sculptor .

Life

Maklouf came to Great Britain after World War II. At the age of 13, while in hospital, he began making sculptures. From 1954 to 1958 he studied at Camberwell College of Arts in London . In the following decades he taught sculpture at various British universities. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. Since 1977 he has been a member of the Royal Society of Arts .

Works

Maklouf's most widespread works are two portrait reliefs of Queen Elizabeth II for British coins - one for currency coins , the other for commemorative coins . Both received royal license to practice medicine on August 8, 1984. The course coins with Maklouf's profile picture Elisabeth II were minted from 1985 to 1997.

In the 1990s, Maklouf created circular reliefs for the Stations of the Cross for Brentwood Cathedral .
