The summer residence of British India was of little value to the Indian President and he only visited it a few days a year, if at all. Professor S. Radhakrishnan wanted to use it for university purposes. The property was transferred to the Department of Education to be given to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study . The Central Public Works Department , Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Himachal Pradesh University were allowed to use some of the buildings one after the other, but most of the property, including the well-manicured lawns and well-stocked greenhouses, remained in the hands of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study.
