Make-up mirror

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A cosmetic mirror is a mirror that is mainly used in personal cosmetics .

It is used for facial cosmetic purposes such as make-up or shaving .

If a concave mirror is used, it has a concave-curved shape so that the face appears larger. If it has the appropriate distance to the object to be mirrored, it generates a clearly contoured optical image . Cosmetic concave mirrors are available in different curvatures that correspond to different magnification factors.

The magnification compared to a normal plane mirror at the same viewing distance is a maximum of 2 times (both mirrors at a distance of the focal length of the concave mirror).

However, if the plane mirror is positioned so close that the mirror image can just be seen clearly, the concave mirror at a distance increases by the factor . This magnification can be increased slightly by reducing the distance to the concave mirror.

The shape of the mirror is variable, with concave mirrors it is usually round, with a normal mirror often embedded on the back . The cosmetic mirror usually also has a frame so that it can be placed upright or hung up.

A distinction must also be made between illuminated and non-illuminated cosmetic mirrors. Illuminated cosmetic mirrors are surrounded by lighting (today mostly LED, earlier incandescent lamps). This allows, for example, the precise application of make-up. Therefore, such mirrors are also used by beauticians and makeup artists.
