The Neo-Renaissance town hall of Jawor (Jauer) dates from the late 19th century and is located on the Ring (Rynek 1).

history

The first town hall was built in the 14th century and has been rebuilt many times. After the structure caught fire in 1846 and 1895, it was demolished in 1895, and the 65-meter-high Gothic tower was preserved. The new town hall was built around this from 1895 to 1897. The new building was designed by the Charlottenburg architect Hermann Guth (* 1851). The town hall of Jauer also served as a model for the town hall in Tarnowitz, which was built at the same time . On November 22nd, 1897, the town hall was ceremonially opened.

On October 8, 1963 the town hall tower and on April 16, 1977 the town hall was registered as a monument.

architecture

The building in the style of the Dutch neo-renaissance with two upper floors consists of two wings and stands on a raised base with studs . In the inner courtyard is the Gothic tower with a baroque helmet. This is square at the bottom and octagonal at the top. The facade is plastered and was originally richly and colorfully painted u. a. with the coats of arms of Silesia, the duchy and the city. It is characterized by a bay tower and several gables.

In the council chamber there are windows with elaborate stained glass. They were designed by Julius Jürs in 1897.

The facade decorations include u. a. a cartouche with the coats of arms of the Duchy of Jauer and the city of Jauer and the initials of the architect HG
