The town hall in Untergruppenbach

Today's town hall of Untergruppenbach in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg was built in 1791 as a Protestant parsonage and acquired by the community in 1962 for use as a town hall.

history

A parsonage at the Johanneskirche in Gruppenbach can be traced for almost as long as the church, which was first mentioned in 1453. Gruppenbach became Protestant through the Reformation under Wolf Philipp von Hürnheim in 1536 . From 1551 the Catholic Fuggers held the rule and the right of patronage and, after a few years, committed themselves to the structural maintenance of the rectory in 1563. After the Fuggers left, Gruppenbach came to Württemberg in the 18th century and the parish became a special superintendent of Lauffen. In 1791 the old rectory was replaced by a new half-timbered building on a stone base. A community hall was set up on the ground floor of this building in 1932. In the spring of 1945, when the area was bombarded by the advancing Allied troops, a shell hit the cellar filled with people seeking protection, but it did not explode, so that there was no major personal injury or structural damage. In the following two winter months, until the St. John's Church, which was damaged in the war, was restored, the building's hall was used for worship purposes. As early as 1952, the community expressed the wish to acquire the rectory for use as a town hall. The sale took place in 1962. The parish has built a new rectory and a new parish center in the neighborhood. The political community has now extended the town hall to the west by two extensions.
