The town hall in Ruchheim , a district of Ludwigshafen am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built around 1721 as a moated castle. It is located at Schlossstrasse 1 and is a protected cultural monument .

history

The original moated castle was built around 1721 by the von Russicon family from Basel . Conference councilor and supreme court chancellor at the Palatinate court, Baron Jakob Tillmann von Hallberg , acquired the place and the castle in 1737. The property was auctioned in 1815 and came into the possession of the Wolf family from Wachenheim, who expanded it into a farm. The moat around the castle was leveled in 1885. The later owner Albert Bürklin converted it into the residential and administrative building of the Bürklin-Wolf estate in 1909. The BASF-Housing company GEWOGE bought the building in 1964, the municipality of Ruchheim bought it again in 1970. After the incorporation of Ruchheim in 1974, the city of Ludwigshafen became the owner. The old outbuildings were demolished in 1978 and a community house was set up. Today the former castle is the seat of the mayor of Ruchheim.
