Braided rat tail

A rat tail (also English rattail ) is a thin, mostly plaited braid that grows at the back of the hairline. Often the neck is shaved except for a strip of hair that grows down the back.

The rat tail is also known as fuse , tail , Swinserl , Sascha hair or in Bavaria also "Ratzenfrisur" (rat hairstyle) and is mainly worn by children, especially boys. However, this hairstyle can also be found in adults. The hairstyle was particularly popular with children in the late 1980s and 1990s.

Two open braids worn behind the ears are also known as rat tails or rat tails . In English they are called pigtails or piggytails (pork tails ).
