Ray (robot)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ray robot is a system for automatic parking, for example in parking garages . It has been tested at Düsseldorf Airport since June 2014 . The manufacturer is the Bavarian company Serva Transport Systems GmbH from Grabenstätt . The development was promoted by the company and the Dortmund Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics .

The driver parks the vehicle at the entrance to the parking garage. The driverless transport vehicle measures the vehicle, lifts it a few centimeters and looks for a parking space in the parking garage. This saves the customer the trouble and time of looking for a free space in the parking garage. The robot will later make the vehicle available again. It is also possible for the robot to park the car and make it available to the driver before the driver reaches the parking garage, for example if it is an airport parking garage and the robot receives the information that an aircraft has landed with the driver on board. The customer uses a smart phone - app that can be downloaded from the website of the airport.

The operator of the parking garage can accommodate about twice the number of vehicles in the given space and generate higher income; A conversion of the parking garage or the laying of rails or the installation of shelves is not necessary. In contrast to other automated systems, several robots work simultaneously and the risk of the system being blocked is lower.

The system was nominated for the German Start-Up Prize in the StartUp category in 2013 and presented at the Hanover Fair .

Serva Transport Systems GmbH was founded in 2010.
