Readly is an Internet service that provides digital versions of numerous print magazines via browser and app for a subscription fee. At the end of 2018, a total of around 3400 magazine titles were offered, around 1000 of them in German.

history

Readly has been developed by company founder Joel Wikell since 2012.

Readly has been represented on the German market since the end of 2014.

In March 2018 it was announced that the previous CEO, Per Hellberg, would change to the chairmanship of the board. The previous CFO Jörgen Gullbrandson has replaced him as CEO.

In October 2018, Sebastian Ahlskog was appointed the new CFO at Readly. Work started in March 2019.

Between March and August 2019, Readly offered daily and weekly newspapers from Springer Verlag . The editions of the titles Bild am Sonntag , Welt am Sonntag , Welt am Sonntag Kompakt and BZ am Sonntag remain accessible .

In addition to user subscription fees, the company is financed by various investors who have invested at least 23 million euros in the company in several rounds.

Remuneration of the publishers

According to Readly, around 70 percent of net sales are paid out to the publishers, depending on the reading time, the number of pages read and the topicality of the edition read.

criticism

Deactivation of the readly capability for desktops

In July 2018, Readly announced that it would discontinue the web version of the service at the end of August 2018. However, after corresponding customer feedback, this decision was reversed shortly afterwards.
