Ignatius van der Beken

Ignatius van der Beken , also Ignace van der Beken (born December 11, 1689 in Antwerp ; † June 7, 1774 ibid), was a Flemish genre , portrait and still life painter .

Life

Van der Beken was a student of Willem van Herp the Younger (1657–1729) in 1701. In 1712 he went to Düsseldorf to the court of the Palatinate Elector Johann Wilhelm . In 1716, 1722, 1723, 1738, 1743, 1744 and 1749 he acted as dean of the Antwerp St. Luke Guild and thus had an influential position in the artistic community in his hometown, which from 1714 belonged to the Austrian Netherlands .

Van der Beken created company and family portraits in the gallant style of his time. In 1733 he portrayed the Archbishop, Arch Chancellor and Elector Philipp Karl von Eltz-Kempenich in Mainz .
