The Realtek Semiconductor Corp. ( Chinese 瑞昱 半導體 股份有限公司 ) is a fabless semiconductor manufacturer that deals with the development of ICs for PCs . Realtek was founded in October 1987, and the company's shares have been listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange since 1998 . The company is located in the Hsinchu Science Park near Hsinchu / Republic of China (Taiwan) . As of 2015 Realtek has around 2500 employees, 78% of whom work in research and development.

The company is particularly known for its network chips, which are usually built into network cards for Ethernet , and for its AC97 and HDA codecs, which are usually part of sound solutions integrated on the motherboard. The company's audio solutions are based on technologies from Avance Logic, which was taken over in 1995 (recognizable by the name prefixes ALS and ALC). Avance Logic was fully integrated into the group at the end of 2002.
