Reference Designation System for Power Plants

The Reference Designation System for Power Plants, or RDS-PP for short , is a system presented as ISO / TS 16952-10 for standardization for the identification of technical objects and their documentation in power plants. So far, it has not been published by DIN or ISO as a norm or standard and therefore has the DIN draft status "Pre-standard" or the ISO draft status "Technical Sheet" ISO / TS .

RDS-PP uses the structuring principles and rules for reference identification of IEC 81346-1 / EN 81346-1 / DIN EN 81346-1 and supplements these with rules from other standards. RDS-PP claims to be applicable for all phases of all power plant types. It offers further tables with letter codes, which supplement the tables of IEC 81346-2 / EN 81346-2 / DIN EN 81346-2 .

RDS-PP is an aid for the user to label locations, plants, systems, functions and equipment. The labels created in accordance with IEC 81346-1 / EN 81346-1 / DIN EN 81346-1 or RDS-PP serve as the basis for the coding of signals, connections and documents.

RDS-PP labels consist of a sign followed by letters and numbers. The sign identifies the aspect with which an object is viewed and thus the identification task, the letters classify the object, the digits have counting functions. The letter code is specified in the VGB guidelines B 101 and B102 and is maintained by the VGB .

The RDS-PP distinguishes between 9 types of labeling:

The labeling according to RDS-PP follows a fixed structure that is based on classification levels. The level of detail of the license plate increases from left to right. The structure of the classification stages is a lpha- n umerisch. In the following, A is used for letters and N for numbers.

Current applications

RDS-PP is currently mainly used in systems in the wind energy industry. In the VGB working group “System Identification and Documentation”, the application explanation B 116-D2 from 2006 was revised jointly by manufacturers, operators and maintenance personnel. The new version was published by VGB in March 2014 under the title "RDS-PP Application Guideline Part 32: Wind Power Plants" as VGB Standard S-823-32.
A pilot application of the RDS-PP was successfully carried out in the Center for Energy Technology of the TU Dresden for test stands and a teaching and experimental power plant.
VGB PowerTech e. V. , VGB for short, recommends the use of RDS-PP as a European trade association for electricity and heat generation without restriction for new buildings. The RDS-PP brand was protected by VGB PowerTech eV to prevent parallel developments that deviate from the VGB specifications, at least under this seal of quality.
