Štefan Tiso government

The Štefan Tiso government , led by Prime Minister Štefan Tiso , was the third government of the independent Slovak state (Slovak: Slovenský štát ), which split off from the Czecho-Slovak Republic under pressure from the German Reich and existed from 1939 to 1945. She was in office from September 5, 1944 to April 4, 1945. She succeeded the Vojtech Tuka government . In April 1945 Slovakia was liberated and the former Czechoslovakia - with only one central government ( government Zdeněk Fierlinger I ) - restored.

Government formation

After the Prime Minister of the previous government, Vojtech Tuka , applied for leave of absence and dismissal from office in early September 1944, during the Slovak National Uprising , the President of the Republic Josef Tiso appointed his distant cousin, Štefan Tiso, as Prime Minister of the next government.

The ministers were in office throughout the regular term of office (September 5, 1944 to April 4, 1945), unless otherwise stated.

Party affiliation

The leading and only authorized party in the Slovak state was Hlinkova slovenská ľudová strana - Strana slovenskej národnej jednoty , known in German as Hlinkas Slovak People's Party , or Hlinka Party for short . It had the character of a unity party .
