Manufacturing

The Reichs Post Bitter Herbal Liqueur is made from 43 herbs and spices from all over the world. Through maceration and percolation, the dried and cut herbs become the raw material in fine spirits for 6 to 8 weeks. The added alcohol and the essential ingredients are obtained by distillation. By mixing with water, alcohol and caramel, the raw material is mixed into the finished herbal liqueur. The factory is in Bad Homburg and delivers from there to customers all over the world.

Overview and history

In 1843, Fritz Scheller founded a wine distillery and liqueur factory in Dornholzhausen , a current district of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . In 1853 he moved the company headquarters to Bad Homburg. Later he expanded his offer to "liqueurs and essences of all kinds in elegant packaging and flacons, mustards and vinegars" (prospectus of a trade exhibition in Oberursel (Taunus) in 1883).

In 1943 Scheller sold his company "Fritz Scheller, Essigsprit-, Senf- und Liqueurfabrik". The production of vinegar went to the Melita company of the Weymar brothers; Heinrich Becker, who started as an apprentice at Scheller in 1893, took over the production of spirits . In 1968 Alfred Fackel took over the spirits production, in 1997 the Alles brothers. Fritz Scheller's company was able to celebrate its 155th anniversary in 1998 under the name "Reichs-Post Bitter".

Since 2009 Stefan Alles has been responsible for the business, which includes the purchase of herbs and spices from all over the world as well as the production and marketing.

Sales and marketing

Both direct sales and sales organized by wholesalers are important sales opportunities for the herbal liqueur. The brand and the merchandising products are marketed directly through promotional activities such as at wine festivals, the lantern festival in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and at Christmas markets. Restaurants and bars sell Reichs Post Bitter both in its pure form, as a shot and as a mixed drink with various fruits such as kumquats and lemons. The bottle sizes are 1 liter, 0.7 liter, 0.35 liter each with screw cap glass bottles, 0.2 liter swing top flask and 0.02 liter mini bottle in a 25-bottle tray.
