Reich film director

The Reichsfilmintendant was the artistic director of the national film industry in National Socialist Germany. After the Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda , Joseph Goebbels , the Reich Film Director was the highest film director in the country.

Goebbels created the position in 1942 after the entire film production had been consolidated in the newly created Ufa Group . It was initially occupied by Fritz Hippler , who was replaced by Hans Hinkel in 1944 .

The responsibility of the Reichsfilmintendanten included the general production planning, the artistic and intellectual overall attitude of the production, the supervision of the artistic personnel deployment as well as the supervision of the selection and education of the young generation. The execution of his instructions was the responsibility of the heads of production at the individual branches of Ufa.
