Bicycle tire levers made of plastic

A tire lever is a tool that is used to make it easier to dismantle the casing from the bicycle or car rim .

Tire levers are made of metal or plastic, there are flat and angled versions. The latter have the advantage that they can be hooked into the spokes when in use and thus replace the third hand for the user.

Tire levers are usually sold in packs of 3, as a maximum of three copies are required to dismantle a jacket.

To dismantle the jacket, the air is first let out of the bicycle tube. Then the tire lever is carefully pushed between the rim and the jacket without damaging the tube. If you have an angled tire lever, it is attached to the next spoke to fix it. The second tire lever is then used a little further. This allows the jacket to be pulled out over the rim flange at this point. With the third tire lever, which you insert a little further, the jacket can be pulled further from the rim. Most of the time, you can remove it from the rim by hand. If that doesn't work, the middle tire lever is removed and reinserted a little further. In this way, the jacket can be lifted off the rim piece by piece. After the tube has been removed, the other side of the jacket can now also be lifted over the rim flange. This is usually possible without a tire lever.
