The Reims Champagne Hockey was founded in 2002 and included in the fourth class Division 3 for the 2002/03 season . After one season, the club rose to the third highest division, Division 2 . The team spent the following four years in Division 2. After the 2006/07 season, they were promoted to Division 1 , the second highest French professional league. The team has since achieved moderate placements in the lower midfield of the table and successfully secured the league.

The previous club, Hockey Club de Reims , took part in the IIHF Continental Cup in the 1997 and 1999 and 2000/01 seasons. The team had a balance of three points when they participated for the first time and, as runner-up in Group F, failed to make it into the next round. Two years later, the team won Group J with three wins, making it into the third round for the first time. The club was denied entry into the final round as it lost in the last group game against the Slovenian representative HDD Olimpija Ljubljana .
