Travel Adventure (Waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Travel adventure is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 227). The work was first performed in the summer of 1859 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The work was completed by Johann Strauss in the summer of 1859 during another trip to Russia. The composer may have begun sketches for this waltz much earlier. This is supported by the fact that he musically imitates a storm at sea in the coda. This could indicate a dangerous voyage from Stettin to Kronstadt two years earlier, which Strauss had witnessed himself. The exact date of the premiere in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg is not known. The first performance in Vienna took place on November 20, 1859 in the Volksgarten there.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 21 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
