from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Reliance Motorcycle Company was an American company for motorcycles from the pioneering days of motorization. The brand names were Reliance and Monarch .

The Reliance brand was introduced in 1903 by the Empire Motor Cycle Company , which shortly thereafter changed its name to Reliance Motorcycle Company . The company was based in Owego , New York .

In the fall of 1909, The Motor World reported that an additional automobile was to be manufactured for which parts were being bought in. However, such a vehicle never appeared.

In 1911 production had to be stopped due to financial difficulties. The company was then taken over by the former managing director Willis Ives and renamed Ives Motorcycle Corporation . The motorcycles, which were offered from 1912, carried the brand name Monarch . In addition, engines were supplied to manufacturers of small vehicles and cycle cars . This year a V2 engine with 10 HP (based on the calculation at the time) was presented.

The company never operated profitably. The last motorcycles left the factory in 1915.
