Remonteschule (Gardelegen)
The Remonteschule was a barracks for the training of cavalry or Remonte in the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen .
A riding and driving school for the province of Saxony had existed in Gardelegen since the 1920s . After Gardelegen became a garrison town again in 1937, this school became a military facility with a bomb-proof staff building and stables. After arriving in Gardelegen in April 1945, after death marches from the Mittelbau-Dora and Hanover-Stöcken concentration camps, more than 1,000 concentration camp prisoners were penned into the buildings of the Remonteschule. SS guards, members of the Wehrmacht , the Reich Labor Service , the Volkssturm and other NSOrganizations took them from there on the evening of April 13, 1945 to the outskirts and murdered them in the massacre in the Isenschnibber barn . After the withdrawal of the Soviet soldiers, the buildings of the Remonteschule were demolished in the 1990s.
