Remotely Piloted Aircraft System

The term Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) , German  remote controlled aviation system , was introduced by the ICAO . It includes unmanned aircraft that do not operate autonomously, but are monitored and commanded from a ground station. Most civilly used UAVs fall into this class. This term is increasingly used by international authorities and legislators, e.g. B. ICAO, Eurocontrol , EASA or European Commission .
