history

The place was first mentioned in a document around 1050. The name comes from the Germanic word Hramasita , d. H. Raven place . It is believed that a Wotan shrine was located there in pre-Christian times . The constant companions of the god Wotan were the two ravens Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory). Iroschottische monks evangelized the pagan Saxons and founded the St. Anthony Church .

The place developed into a regionally known place of pilgrimage and is the oldest place of pilgrimage of the Diocese of Osnabrück . The pilgrimage to Remsede only came to a standstill during the Reformation . Recently, however, there have been efforts to revive the Remseder pilgrimage .
