Remyelination

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As remyelination is called the restoration of the myelin sheath of nerve fibers after injury by so-called demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis , as well as demyelinating neuropathies . The process of remyelination is a process that occurs naturally in the body, but it is often incomplete and can vary from person to person. A better understanding of natural remyelination processes is a prerequisite for a future therapeutic influence and is therefore currently the subject of intensive research.
