René Barbier (rose grower)
René Barbier (* 1845; † 1931) was a French rose breeder .
Barbier introduced the Rosa luciae var. Wichuraiana Koidz found in Japan from America in the 1890s . and cultivated 23 Wichurana hybrids from their seedlings . This made him the most important climbing rose grower before the First World War . In addition, his polyanthas with their strong colors were in demand. His son Georges continued to grow roses until the Second World War, when the company was completely closed in 1972.
