Renate Simonsen (born July 12, 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German author who publishes under the pseudonyms Mari Ann Simon and Rena Neutze.

With the novel End of Misery , Simonsen not only received national attention, but also her very own subject and style: “A historic Hamburg that is characterized by workers' housing, poverty and misery. Right in the middle of it all is the life-hungry protagonist who still has a lot to endure in her life and has to endure all kinds of injustices. The author creates an authentic story that shines despite the melancholy mood of full, colorful life. "Elendsende" - a multi-faceted, historical novel that takes us back to a Hamburg of the 20s in one fell swoop. "
