The Renault Sport Series (from 2005 to 2015 World Series by Renault ) is a motorsport series that includes several championships. The main series from 2005 to 2015 was the Formula Renault 3.5 . In 2016 the series of events consisted of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and the Renault Sport Trophy .

history

In 2003 Renault created the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup , which competed with the World Series by Nissan . The Formula Renault V6 Eurocup was part of the super racing weekends of the television channel Eurosport . The European Touring Car Championship and the FIA GT Championship already belonged to this format .

In 2005, Renault got out of Eurosport's super racing weekend and founded a series of events called World Series by Renault , which, with a mixture of monoposto and touring cars, pursued a similar concept to the super racing weekend. The main series of the World Series by Renault was the Formula Renault 3.5 monoposto championship , which was the result of a merger of the World Series by Nissan with the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup. There was also the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , which served as the substructure for the Formula Renault 3.5, and the Eurocup Mégane Trophy , a newly established touring car series. The three championships remained unchanged until 2013 and formed the core of the World Series by Renault, which featured a viewer-friendly environment. Access to the grandstands and the paddock was free and there was a comprehensive supporting program. In 2010 the F4 Eurocup 1.6 was part of the World Series by Renault and from 2011 to 2014 the Eurocup Clio was one of them.

After the Eurocup Mégane Trophy was discontinued at the end of 2013, the Renault Sport Trophy , a GT racing series, was added to the event concept after a one-year break . At the end of 2015 there was a major change in the series of events. Renault ended the orientation of the Formula Renault 3.5, which from then on was no longer part of the series and was continued as Formula V8 3.5 . As a result, the series of events was continued under the name Renault Sport Series .
