Rendall (from the old north. Rennudair - Renna Valley) is one of 13 administrative units on Mainland , the main island of Orkney in Scotland . It is northwest of Kirkwall , to the east of West Mainland. This includes the island of Gairsay , home of the Viking Sweyn Asleifsson , who is mentioned in the Orkneyinga saga .

The main town of Rendall is Tingwall , from where the ferry to Rousay Island leaves.

In the Iron Age , the Brochs of Burgar , Dishero, Tingwall, Waswick and Hall of Rendall, northeast of Gordeness , were created in this region . The stone Doocot (English Dovecot (e) - dovecote ) of Hall of Rendall is unique on Orkney and is not far from the Wide Firth. The Rendall coast is threatened by erosion. So the medieval cemetery of St. Thomas Kirk (also Tammeskirk) was washed up.

Sandwich terns and arctic terns form a colony on the Holm of Rendall. The reserve of Cottascarth is breeding site of the Harrier and wintering place of wading birds.
