Renqing

Renqing is an essential basis for the Chinese guanxi relationships (关系). It stands for mutual gifts and favors in the network of relationships.

Renqing (人情 rénqíng) are like “debts” that build up through the receipt of a favor and can last for years, even for generations in the sense of long-term guanxi relationships.

For the Chinese , it is a matter of course to provide something in return.
