Jin Renqing (Chinese 金人庆) (* July 1944 in Suzhou , Jiangsu Province ; † August 28, 2021 ) was Finance Minister of the People's Republic of China from 2003 to 2007 .

Life

Jin Renqing graduated from the Central Finance and Banking Institute in Beijing in 1966 . From 1968 to 1980, he was a vice chairman of the Grain Department and the deputy director of the Yongsheng County Finance Bureau .

In 1983, he became the deputy commissioner for the Lijiang Administration Department before becoming vice governor of Yunnan Province in 1985 . He stayed in this position until 1991 when he became Deputy Minister of Finance. In 1995 he held the position of Deputy Secretary General of the State Council and became Deputy Mayor of Beijing that same year, which he remained until 1998.

In 1997 he was elected Deputy Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party . He was elected Director of the Ministry of Finance in 1998 and five years later he became Minister of Finance. In August 2007, he unexpectedly resigned from his ministerial post. He was succeeded as finance minister by Xie Xuren . After his resignation, Jin Renqing became vice director of the State Council's Development Research Center.

He died in a fire in his home on August 28, 2021 at the age of 77.
