The repository (old filing system ) is part of a registry , but is usually spatially separated from it. This is where files are stored that are rarely or no longer needed for ongoing operations, as well as files for which the capacity of the relevant file folder in the current registry is exhausted.

The same filing plan and registry rules apply to the repository files as to the files in the current registry.

The files are kept in the repository until they are finally archived .
