The Reppener Kugelkäfer ( Hyperaspis reppensis ), also known as the tip- spotted short-horned ladybird , is a beetle from the ladybird family .
features
The Reppener Kugelkäfer has a length of 3–4 mm. The black elytra are broadly oval and have an orange spot at the rear end. Some specimens also have an orange shoulder mark. The lateral edge of the black pronotum is broadly orange in color. The front margin can also be colored orange. The males have a yellow-orange head, while this is black in the females. Hyperaspis campestris is a similar species . In this species, the point on the wing covers is not at the back end, but a little further forward.
Occurrence
The species is widespread in Europe. Their occurrence extends in the north to southern Norway, central Sweden and central Finland. The species is local in the British Isles. In the south it occurs as far as North Africa, in the east across Asia Minor to the Caucasus , to Syria and Iran.
Way of life
The adult beetles can be observed from April. The warmth-loving species prefers dry locations exposed to the sun as habitat, in particular dry grasslands and forest edges. The beetles are mostly found on herbaceous plants and on grasses as well as on broom . As a food of the larvae and adult beetles are scale insects (Coccoidea) and tube aphids (Aphididae) called.
