Reproduction area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reproduction area is derived from “ reproduction ” and “ area ”. This biological term describes a geoecologically restricted area within which a certain species predominantly or exclusively reproduces. Reproduction areas are therefore the primary protection goal in species protection .

The species can also use this reproductive area as a habitat , but species often migrate back to surrounding biotopes after reproduction , which may be completely different.

The best- known example is the eel , which migrates to the Sargasso Sea to reproduce and spawn there. These reproduction areas are often relatively small and of worldwide importance for the species. Their destruction is usually accompanied by a disappearance of the species.
