Reproduction costs
The term reproduction costs comes from ecology and describes the balancing of organisms between their own (somatic) growth and their reproduction. If an organism invests a lot of its energy in reproduction, only little energy remains to ensure its own survival, which has an indirect influence on future reproduction, which may be reduced as a result. If, however, more energy is used for one's own survival, there is a higher chance of producing offspring later, but then only little energy can be used for the current reproduction at the moment.
