The Reserva Nacional Las Chinchillas is located near the city of Illapel in the Little North of Chile. It mainly serves to protect the long-tailed chinchilla . The reserve is located in a semi-desert between mountain ranges. There are no permanent rivers, but some gorges have seasonal water.
flora
In the park there are mainly shrubs and cacti. Including rare occurrences of carboncillo and the guayacán bush .
fauna
In addition to the eponymous chinchilla, there are other rare species in the reserve. Including the puma , the elegant fat- tailed rat , the coruro , pampas cat and the dwarf gu .
visit
The park includes a visitor center, which is also open at night so that the nocturnal animals can be observed. There are also two hiking trails. One easy path with a length of 500 m and one with a length of 2.5 km. For the latter, about 1.5 hours must be planned.
