UN Security Council Resolution 223

The Resolution 223 of the UN Security Council from 21 June 1966 recommends that the UN General Assembly , the request of the South American country of Guyana to membership in the United Nations to agree. A representative from Venezuela was present but not entitled to vote.

The resolution reads as follows (unofficial translation):

The Security Council

Recommends that the General Assembly, after examining the Republic of Guyana’s application for membership of the United Nations, approve Guyana’s membership of the United Nations.

The resolution was passed at the 1287th session of the Security Council.
